BR x TSP DIY
In early 2018, we came across something called “The Speed Project” on Instagram and instantly connected with this cult crew.
We exchanged messages; got approvals, and within 48 hours, signed and paid up the registration fees.
You must be wondering, what exactly is ‘The Speed Project’?
The Speed Project (TSP) 1.0 was held in March 2013 and was meant to answer one question: How fast can you run from Point A to Point B? To answer this question, two women and four men decided to see how fast they could run from Los Angeles to Las Vegas i.e. approximately 340 miles
These are few tips shared by runners who have run TSP before:
Temperatures can be at 40C in the morning and -7C at night.
Runners should carry pepper spray, especially at night. Teams should carry snake bite kits
At the end of Segment #35, there is a chest-high barbed wire fence. Meet your runner at the fence with a thick blanket so you can safely climb over the fence. DO NOT cut the fence
Teams from Nike, Adidas, Red Bull, Strava participate in The Speed Project.
And By The Way, THERE IS NO PRIZE MONEY. NO REWARDS. NO SPECTATORS.
All this while, we have been prepping up to travel & participate in The Speed Project.
As you guys are aware we did Bombay Goa Chase last year to test ourselves and cracked the code. The Bombay Goa Chase team from Bombay Running carved a name in the “India Book Of Records” to run the longest and fastest distance on foot covering 567 kms in 40 hours 17 minutes with 6 runners.
Fast track to 2020, COVID-19 struck the world and Its been a horrible year especially for sports. Major sport events got cancelled and so did TSP March 2020.
We were doing our regular workouts from home, and that’s when we got an email about TSP DIY.
So now WTF is TSP DIY ?
TSP DIY is a global, decentralized event from The Speed Project. Starting at 4 AM PDT on September 5, 2020, teams* will have 31 hours and 15 minutes (the standing TSP record) to run as many kilometres as they can, relay-style. Teams* choose their own routes, and members can run legs from anywhere in the world.
A live, global leaderboard and TSP-style story coverage will run throughout the event.
Teams have to follow local protocol for their runs, any gatherings, and celebrations.
Teams will have 31 hours, 15 minutes (the standing LALV record) to run as many kilometers as they can, relay-style (or as a solo runner). When the clock hits 31:15, the team* with the most miles wins #TSPDIY.
You must have guessed by now
Bombay Running is the only Indian team to participate in TSP DIY among the 300+ teams from across the world.
Bombay Running’s team of 4 males and 2 females are training for it and attempting to be in the Top 10 of the Leaderboard. Coach Dan Zico is guiding and training the runners.
The Good News is that BombayRunning is the 3rd fastest team in the TSD DIY Time Trials.
The finale run will happen somewhere in Maharashtra. The logistics are being planned for the same.
